About Wingham
A river town at the head of navigation, with cedar, timber and dairy in its bones, and one of the best-kept collections of heritage buildings in the region.
Around Central Park, the square at its heart, stand the 1884 post office, the 1907 School of Arts, the Federation-era police station, the Georgian Revival courthouse and the Memorial Town Hall, opened in 1923 in memory of the district’s fallen.

How the town got here
Wingham sits at the head of navigation on the Manning River: supply boats could get no further, so the government marked out a village here. It took its name from Wingham in Kent, England.
Allotments were not made until 1854, and the town has been finding its feet, and its heritage, ever since.
1844
The government proclaims a village at the head of navigation, the first on the Manning River.
1889
A municipality, on cedar, timber and dairy, with a river port doing the work.
5 February 1913
The first train arrives. The North Coast line still stops in town.

A few things worth knowing
Author Di Morrissey, one of Australia’s best-selling novelists, was born in Wingham in 1948. Central Park carries a plaque marking the 1907 rugby match that helped spark the formation of rugby league in New South Wales.
The Manning Valley Historical Society keeps its rooms and museum in town, and the year runs on the showground: the rodeo, the Wingham Show, Beef Week, the Scottish festival, the music festival and the campdraft.
Who keeps this hub
A pilot, run by volunteers on OurHub. It is not a council service, and it is early days.
The hub
Volunteers on OurHub set it up from public information and keep the directory tidy.
The groups
Every linked group posts for itself. Its own committee is the one to ask about its news.

How a group links under the hub
1. Have a page
Set one up here, or keep the one you already have. Either can sit under the hub.
2. Ask to link
From your own dashboard, ask to sit under this hub. One of us says yes, usually the same day.
3. Post as you always did
Your news and events show on your page and here, with your name on them. Nothing goes through us first.
